Northern Crescent Iron started the same way many of the great small companies that our nation is built upon have started. One man, in his garage, with a dream to make a living doing something that he loves.
Meet Matt Waldrop, owner of Northern Crescent Iron, and the man with the dream to modernize blacksmithing and show the world the beautiful and artistic side of iron working.
Starting at age 15, as a knife maker under armorer Steve Mills, Matt developed a real passion for the art of blacksmithing. In the early years, as he began making his own wares, the extensive travel to sell his creations in the larger cities, made trains and the railroad a significant part of his life. Matt quickly became a train and railroad aficionado. This led him to pick up a railroad spike one day and forge a knife for fun. Soon he was selling them at fairs and local events along side other artistic creations. Today, with a full line of knives and bottle openers from sleek and simple to elaborate and intricate, an extensive line of door and cabinet hardware, and beautifully designed railings and artwork, all made with revolutionary new tools and systems, his dream is being realized. Now Matt and his team continue to expand and grow while teaching and mentoring local youth to fulfill their dreams and keep the great art of blacksmithing alive.
